MPO takes prison ministry to East Texas

The MPO traveled to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice's George Beto Unit in Tennessee Colony, Texas, on June 2, 2007 to support the Coalition of Churches in Prison Ministry in a service of music and worship. The Beto Unit houses over 3,300 inmates. Vocalist Denise Little performed with the MPO, while Texas Supreme Court Justice Nathan Hecht led worshippers in several gospel hymns from the keyboard. Among other guests in the audience was Harriet Miers, counsel to President George W. Bush.
First-ever Sacred Jazz Fest features MPO performance
The Metro Praise Orchestra was one of 11 bands to appear at the first-ever Sacred Jazz Fest, April 28, 2007 at Lovers Lane United Methodist Church in Dallas, performing a 45-minute set with guest vocalist Ken Nelson. The event also featured performances by the Woods Chapel Church Jazz Band from Kansas City, the Joshua Experience, the Abilene Christian University Jazz Band, the Dallas Christian Jazz Band, Crosswinds Jazz Band, Lovers Lane Jazz Band and Dixieland Band, First United Methodist Church Big Band, and an evening concert by Denver and the Mile High Orchestra.
